Tanya Knight Ruffin: I create because I have to—it’s somewhere between breathing, caffeine, and a slightly questionable compulsion to turn random things into art. I have a BFA in Fine Arts and a Master’s degree in Art History, so yes, I can discuss Byzantine mosaics… and then immediately show you how to make something with resin, glitter, skulls, fabric, paint, or whatever else wandered into the studio. By day, I’m an instructional technology trainer. By night, I’m an artist, teacher, creative instigator, and ringleader of the wonderfully imperfect Magicmakers at Create Studios. Around here, we don’t worry much about doing art the “right” way. We experiment, make a mess, follow the weird idea, and see what kind of magic happens.
