How to Customize Shoes with Mod Podge

I had a pair of Vionics that were scuffed and the leather was cracking. It was rather disappointing considering how much they cost. I tried to paint the leather with leather paint, but it didn't conceal the cracks enough.

So I decided to try to Mod Podge them. I could have used fabric, but I couldn't find a pattern I liked, so I printed laser copies instead.

Tip: Laser copies will hold up to waterbased products. Inkjet prints will run. You can always print out an inkjet copy and get laser copies made at copy shop.

Tip: If you mist the paper with water before you coat with Mod Podge it makes the paper more pliable.

I cut each square out and began with the bottom edge of the shoe. This way I could overlap the designs as I moved up to the top edge of the shoe. I used Mod Podge Matte.

Once done, I coated the entire surface with a layer of Mod Podge.  I am still trying to decide on what to do about the top edge of the shoe. But I will decide before Halloween.

I love them!

What a great idea! Have you worn them outdoors? I wonder if using Mod Podge outdoor formula would help them be weather-resistant.
